EMS Connectivity requirements
EMS Internet Connectivity Requirements
The Energy Management System (EMS) cannot currently operate over 4G/mobile networks, as it requires frequent data updates. The gateway must therefore be connected to the homeowner’s residential internet connection. The EMS only works while an internet connection is available. If a system is configured for EMS, the gateway must have a wired connection to the internet.
Recommended Solution
The preferred setup is to connect the gateway directly to the modem using an Ethernet cable:
-
Both CAT5 and CAT6 cables are suitable
-
The cable must be routed through a cable conduit and care must be taken to avoid pinching
-
The Ethernet cable should not exceed 100 meters in length
Alternative Option
If routing the Ethernet cable is economically or logistically unfeasible, a powerline adapter can be used. This allows the Taylor gateway to connect to the internet via the home's power grid.
Required Materials
-
2× Ethernet cables
Process
- Connect one Devolo Magic 1 LAN to your Internet router using an ethernet cable.
- Connect the other Devolo Magic 1 LAN to the gateway using an ethernet cable.
- Plug both Devolo Magic 1 LAN adapters into available power sockets within 3 minutes. As soon as the LEDs on both adapters flash white at regular intervals of 0.5 sec., they are ready to operate and automatically start the process of establishing an encrypted connection to each other.
- Tip: the same wall socket can be used for the gateway and your Internet router can be used by the Devolo Magic 1 LAN, no additional wall socket is needed.
- If the LEDs on both devolo Magic adapters light up in white, then your devolo Magic network has been set up according to your individual specifications and is protected from unauthorised access.
Important Notes
-
taylor.solar does not own this solution and cannot provide support for issues related to it.
-
The performance of powerline adapters depends on local power grid conditions. High noise levels or poor wiring may degrade the connection, potentially making it unsuitable for EMS requirements.
-
In such cases, a direct wired Ethernet connection is mandatory.
